South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) created an intake manual that is used by all of its offices.  The manual serves as a guide for determining which legal problems will result in an application for service, assistance by counsel and advice/brief services, and further review by the managing attorney for extended services. 

The intake manual contains sections addressing:

o Disabled Callers Seeking Telephone Intake
o Video Conferencing
o Limited English Proficient Applicants
o Telephone Intake Procedures
o Financial Eligibility and Guidelines
o Conflicts of Interest
o Case Management
o Case Priorities
o An Emergency Disaster Plan

The manual also provides intake questions from different categories including health, housing, family, consumer, education, employment, elder law and income maintenance.
