The D.C. Bar Pro Bono Program launched a Small Claims Resource Center Pilot Project to offer legal information to pro se litigants.
The Resource Center's lawyers and law students advise pro se litigants on how to present their cases in court, assist litigants with preparing pro se pleadings, and help pro se litigants understand small claims proceedings. The Resource Center's lawyers and law students also educate pro se litigants about how to obtain continuances and retain counsel, and make referrals to legal service providers in appropriate cases.
The Pro Bono Program recruited Neighborhood Legal Services Program, Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, and George Washington University Law School to staff the Small Claims Resource Center during the initial pilot phase.
