In Pittsburgh, the Academy of Trial Lawyers has joined with the EducationLawCenter, Neighborhood Legal Services Association, and the Allegheny County Bar Foundation's ProBonoCenter to develop a signature pro bono project that provides lawyers to represent students at school board expulsion hearings.
Under this new partnership, the EducationLawCenter, a nonprofit public interest law center that provides free legal advice and technical assistance to children and families on issues of public education, will screen expulsion cases that come into its office for income eligibility. Eligible clients will be referred to the Academy of Trial Lawyers, who will provide all of the volunteer attorneys for the project.
Attorneys from the EducationLawCenter will provide introductory training for which participating attorneys will receive CLE credit.
