Retired and Inactive Lawyers and Volunteer Involvement

Utah Legal Services
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

Utah Legal Services (ULS) recruits retired, semi-retired, and otherwise inactive volunteer lawyers to assist senior clients.

ULS employs long-term volunteers who assist staff with seniors served under the program's Older Americans Act grant.  The volunteers handle simple estate planning including preparation of wills, financial powers of attorney, and advance directives for health care. A ULS attorney screens clients, tracks cases, and provides support and assistance to the volunteers when needed.

The volunteers work both remotely and at the ULS office, and make home visits to clients who cannot come to the ULS office. ULS provides office space, paralegal assistance, and professional insurance.
