Iowa Legal Aid - 080041
Abstract Number: 080041
April 2008
The priorities adopted by Iowa Legal Aid (ILA) resulted from an extensive priority setting process conducted by the Board and the staff of Iowa Legal Aid. The Board's Program, Planning and Projects Committee reviewed ILA's past practices regarding needs assessment/priority setting and set forth recommendations for the current process which were adopted by the Board. The process included steps such as: formation of a staff committee, demographic research, research of emerging legal problems for low-income people and collection of input from local Advisory Councils from each of ILA's ten offices.
Following are the priorities of ILA:
1. Preserving Safety and Stability of Individual and Families 2. Preserving the Home 3. Maintaining or Improving Economic Stability 4. Obtaining Necessary Health Care 5. Preserving Fundamental Rights for Populations with Special Vulnerabilities 6. Obtaining Assistance in Emergency Situations 7. Ensuring Access to Advice and Referral 8. Increasing Knowledge through Legal Education 9. Expanding Access to Resources through Partnerships 10. Obtaining Improved Delivery of Legal Services
