State Plan

Washington State Access to Justice Board- 080099

Abstract Number: 080099

November 2008

In June 2006, the Washington State Access to Justice Board (ATJ Board) adopted its revised Plan for the Delivery of Civil Legal Aid to Low Income People in Washington State (State Plan).  The goals of the revised State Plan are:

a. Establish minimum threshold for client service delivery
b. Substantially expand access to necessary legal aid services for all low income people
c. Provide an ongoing infrastructure for effective support and accountability
d. Provide a blueprint for future budget requests and resource allocation decision making

On August 15, 2008, the ATJ Board adopted its State Plan Implementation Update Report, which documents the collective planning efforts of Alliance members and supporters across the state and highlights the areas of accomplishment and substantial progress on delivery system modifications called for by the State Plan.  The report also contains a number of recommendations or changes in the way civil legal aid is configured and supported in our state.  The ATJ Board recognizes that additional time and resources may be necessary to fully implement the State Plan by 2010.
