Legal Services NYC, the largest provider of free civil legal services to the poor in the nation, recently released New Yorkers in Crisis, a report on civil legal needs assessment conducted in 2008. The report documents the current legal needs of low income New Yorkers and presents a broad array of strategies through which legal services providers can address the identified needs. The study involved in depth research including interviews of stakeholders, surveys of staff, community based advocacy organizations and politicians, and analysis of a broad variety of academic and policy oriented research on poverty matters.
